The concept of the Nute Wall of Distinction was initiated in 2000 when the Milton Schools became involved with the Best Schools Initiative through the New Hampshire Department of Education.  The focus of this three year project called “Bridging the Gap” sought to foster communication and create strong links between the schools and the community of Milton.

The purpose of the Wall of Distinction is to recognize Nute alumni who have distinguished themselves in one or more of ten general areas of endeavor beyond high school during their lifetime.  Honorary members are sometimes chosen who are not Nute alumni, but persons who have contributed much to the schools and/or community.

Inductees are invited to attend the bi-annual awards ceremony which is held on even numbered years, on the first Friday in October. We encourage family and friends of nominees to join in the celebration. In order to record this honor, plaques are hung in the Community Room of the Nute Library acknowledging the individuals who have received this distinction. The areas of endeavor are:  Community/Public Service, Athletics, Music, Arts, Sciences, Education, Literature, Military, Technology, and Business.

A selection committee of at least five persons, chooses recipients for consideration. Up to ten selectees are nominated every other year and chosen from graduates of the following blocks of time:  1893 – 1939; 1940 – 1979; 1980 – present.  The first ceremony took place in October of 2002.
